Joy Konrad made an action plan to cope with the waves of shock after hearing, "You have cancer," following a routine mammogram. "You have to get yourself together and gather your friends and family because you really need a tremendous support system," she said. After the diagnosis, she worked with surgeon, Dr. Robert Weber, and medical oncologist, Dr. Karen Gremminger, to create and finalize a treatment plan for the long journey ahead. "You can feel each drug going through your body. It wipes you out physically, mentally, spiritually, financially...everything. The stress of it is immense, but I really can't say enough about the care and treatment here," Joy reflected. "They let me bring different friends to all of my treatments and made everyone feel welcome." Because of Mercy Medical Center's staff and care, Joy feels like herself again; proudly explaining she has a lot of living and a lot of giving back to do.
